After the fall of the leaf village and death of the Hokage, the sand helps the leaf rebuild as a way to form an alliance. Three sand shinobi were sent, Kankuro, Temari, and Gaara. They each are paired with other leaf shinobi whom they must stay with for a week.

   "As of today, Kankuro of the sand will be staying at your residents" Tsunade explains
