After her mother dies, Ainsleigh West returns to the hometown she ran away from two years ago. However, she doesn't expect to be confronted with so many unanswered questions. Instead of seeing her older sister, Kinsley, married to Ainsleigh's first love, Finn Haynes, Kinsley and Finn have broken up. Finn seems to blame her for something she doesn't understand, and she struggles to deal with her unhealed heartbreak and the guilt of her mother's death as she drowns in the memories of before. Ainsleigh doesn't want to hope for something that will never happen, but with each passing day, she wonders if the shield she has used to protect her heart for the past two years is worth it.
