Five year old Frederick is an Australian pioneer, having landed in Queensland in the 1850s. Life is good- he spends everyday playing on the beach and in the woods, waking up next to kangaroos or under koalas- but it isn't easy. Living in an abandoned logger's hut, Frederick's family has to gather, catch or grow their own food, and more importantly, make sure they have enough water to drink for the scorching hot summers.
In Home Among the Gum Trees, Frederick and his family celebrate Christmas with homemade toys and treats, deal with a forest fire, and meet an aboriginal, among many other adventures.
