Simon Snow had always been an odd child, but most foster parents were willing to overlook it for the poor blue-eyed child that he had been. However he was 11 now, and nobody wants him now. Until a strange couple shows up one day saying that he's there child. From there Simon is pushed into a new world of fancy balls in clothes that are scratchy and new, a pair of crazy parents with even crazier standards, private schools filled with scheming snakes instead of students, and the worst of all, Tyrannus Basilton Grimm-Pitch, or Baz, who seems to be right behind every turn, tunnel and trick. How will Simon Snow navigate this Hell?

Eight weeks into their Eighth year, Baz finally arrives at school, ready to stun Snow with his arrival and then hopefully spend the rest of his school year hanging on to the edge of sanity as he only allows his desires the minor indulgence of watching his arch-nemesis (whom he's secretly in love with) as he unknowingly sleeps. Baz's plans are immediately put to a halt, however, once he returns to find that Simon Snow has been cursed, is chronically ill, and is due to die in less than a week. But breaking the curse is easy - all Baz has to do is admit that he loves the other boy more than anyone else ever will.
