1830s a group of 135 white settlers move from the East Coast to Oregon in search of new land. Among them is Sam Nilsson wealthy landowner hoping to expand his wealth by starting a new business. Upon arriving the settlers become aware of the Native American tribe, Selepet. Mayor Dan McKreary decides to let them be for now. Costas Nilsson a spoiled boy of 18 finds himself missing his home town of New Jersey, in a strange new place among people he considers his inferiors. On an escapade into the forest he meets Arrcos a native American man with a serious face and kind eyes.
