Mafuyu has lived most of his life as a monster feeding off the souls of his fellow yokai. And with his ability to lure his prey into magical Faustian pacts, it becomes no surprise when the kitsune becomes the target of the spirit world's overseer, King Yama. Mafuyu is prepared to be a perpetual thorn in his king's side. But what he didn't count on was being baited into capture by the one thing that matters most to him--his betrothed.

Cast down into Assiah, the mortal world, and separated from his fiance, Mafuyu becomes determined to do the impossible: to become a yokai again, escape his mortal world prison, and return to Tsuyuki's side. And with the help of an eccentric shopkeep, the kitsune hopes to brew a special elixir that will return him to the spirit world--The Nectar of Gods.

Though Mafuyu soon learns that something sinister lurks behind the creation of this brew, and that to obtain the components to make it, he'll need to use his power to make magically binding deals to do so. And when that very ability becomes cursed, Mafuyu must choose between returning back to his beloved, or his very life. Every step Mafuyu makes steeps him more into Assiah's mystery, and more into his own fate.
