(A Review) WINNING MEANS FAME AND FORTUNE. LOSING MEANS CERTAIN DEATH. THE HUNGER GAMES HAVE BEGUN. . . . In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and once girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weight survival against humanity and life against love.

In what used to be North America, the proud country of Panem now stands. The rulers from the Capitol hold a televised survival competition in which one male and one female between the ages of twelve and eighteen are reaped to fight to to death in an arena designed to be as deadly as the tributes, themselves. This game is forever known as The Hunger Games. Peeta Mellark, District Twelve's Baker's son, has been, madly in love with his companion, Katniss Everdeen, since the small age of five. Ever since tragedy gave him enough courage to ask for her hand, the unspeakable happens. Katniss's little sister, Primrose, is reaped for the death sentence. Peeta watches helplessly as his lover volunteers to take her place in the Games. Soon after, Peeta is reaped himself. He knows that only one will come out alive: someone smart, determined, and strong enough. And it would be his love. It had to be. This is my verson of The Hunger Games, originally writen by Suzanne Collins.
