Home for the summer from college, Monse Finnie is forced to confront the past she tried so hard to run away from at school: Her first love, her old friends, a father constantly stressed over trying to protect his daughter from the dangers of their inner-city neighborhood.

Unfortunately, she can't hide in her childhood bedroom forever. After receiving a manuscript for an unpublished novel written by her late mother, Monse realizes she has another mystery left to uncover, and again she is forced to recruit the help of the estranged Core4 to unravel it.

But things are different now that they are grown-up, especially as her ex-boyfriend Cesar is now the leader of the Santos. With his new hardened ways, Monse fears of falling in love with him again, especially now that the stakes are greater and deadlier.
