My hand stilled along the hore's mane. Nathan was standing behind me. The heat from his body penetrated right through my clothes.
"Horses aren't like other animals. You need to work to gain their trust."
I heard the double meaning in his words and another brick dropped from my walls.
"What if the horse isn't ready to trust?" I asked.
Nathan laughed. "It's simple. You need to be patient." He took a step closer until I could feel the lines of his body press against my back. "And gentle." Nathan tucked a stray hair behind my ear. "Most importantly, kind."
I swallowed the growing lump in my throat. I was too conflicted. I wanted him to give me space but I also wanted him closer.
"And if that doesn't work?"
"Not all horses are meant to be tamed. Sometimes, they just need to be free."
