This story is inspired by The Maze Runner. The main characters, Ash and Luna, find themselves in an elevator that seems to have not been used for ages. Once the elevator stops, the doors creak open, revealing a large cave full of teenage boys and girls. There seems to be a whole village of them, living in makeshift huts made of stone and materials left behind by the Designers, as the teens call it. They call the place the Hollow, and it was made by the Designers, judging by the perfect spherical shape that the cave follows. The Hollow is perfectly spherical, other than one little opening that could lead to their escape.

Had more than one kid? Dead. However, anyone under 18 that commits a crime will be jailed instead of killed and has until their 18th birthday to prove their innocence or they will be killed as well. That is, until this year. The rules have been changed. Instead of just accepting that your fate is to die, all prisoners that turn 18 within the year that have not proven their innocence can choose to fight for their lives against every other criminal. The last one standing will be freed and have their records wiped clean from any crimes. There's just one small issue. With Rowan's 18th birthday coming up just two days before the games start, she decides to fight for her life as it's the only way she has a chance of surviving. They're seniors in high school but because of the war, they've been separated on government orders. No one is allowed outside because the government is making people to believe its toxic. They believe that if the parents believe it, the kids will too. But it doesn't stop Alex. She and her best friends decide that they are going to try and stop this. But how? They have no clue. 100 years ago, amidst WW3's nuclear bombing, a deadly virus was released in the atmosphere and nearly wiping out the humanity. It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance. Many attempts were made to create a man-made version of synthetic dopamine and each time the outcome was a disaster. Their goal is to create new generations, immune to the virus. These are called Purebloods, the offsprings of those who find pure love, the only cure to save them from a violent death. Running out of time, the Experiment entered in its final stages.
