At 40 years old Allie has finally earned her freedom. 20 years of toleranting  abuse and fear has left her numb and cold to the promises of a brighter future. Taking a job as a repair engineer aboard a interspecies ship ran by the Atssk is her first step forward toward independence. Love is the last thing on her mind and self sufficiency the first.

This is the beginning part 1 of the novel, it is sectioned off in separate parts for easier reading. This is the introductory events before the main story started its journey.

Shit. The corners of her mouth pull up, and it's so unnatural, it takes me a moment to realize she's smiling. Major plastic surgery? Probably. Click. Did she just lock the door? She locked the door! I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on. So, call me stupid, but I sit down. "I am from a space organization that protects civilians from . . . outside threats." *** Beautiful cover made by @mahana258! Before the fall of Earth humanity built a great colony ship, ten thousand of the colonist left Earth for a hundred year journey to Gillespie. They came from all over the Earth leaving a planet knowing they would never see another in their lifetime. The Ark is a rotating cylinder the size of a large island with its own train system. It's divided into three main sections, the city, the framlands, and the Lowers. The people are divided into three groups as well, Uppers, Middles and Lowers. Uppers are made of elite scientist, Astro-crops, bureaucrats they made up about 3% of the population. The Middles are are the farmers, the guard, teachers, doctors, the food processors, clothes makers and of course the mechanical maintenance workers. They make-up the 97% of the 10,000 counted citizens. The lowers are criminals and children born to un-paired parents. They live separated from the middles and Upper. In lowers you work in water reclamation or in one of the fish farms that supply protein to the ship. In the year 2149 Dylan De Rovia is trying to wrap her head around the idea that in two year's she'll be paired. That they call marriage on the Ark. Pairing is good most who are paired do end-up staying together because while genetics play good part in determining a match so does personality. Some people choose to use spend this time having a good time with as many partners as possible. Dylan however, vowed that she would never fall in love with anyone before pairing. The universe had other plans however, when Dylan learns that she'll pair with an Upper named Kyive Sinclar life gets more complicated than ever. Falling in love is hard enough falling in love in space that the story.

Her plans change, however, when she stumbles upon a patient, Renvir. An unorthodox love blooms between the two, but the secret he carries forces her to question the perfect world she's imagined.
