Five generations after the Targaryen line appears to end at the altar of the Iron Throne, Luciana Targaryen rules over Westeros with her deadly amethyst stare and a penchant for knowing everyone's secrets. She has occupied the throne for nearly twenty-five years, and well into her fourth decade, plans to remain for the next twenty-five.

Luciana's reign has instilled a feeling of peace and contentment in the kingdom, perhaps for everyone except her children. A widow who wants to ensure her dynasty is secure for generations to come, Luciana must trust in her children: an apathetic Crown Prince, an angry and difficult daughter who is Luciana's mirror image, an illegitimate child, and a secret no one must ever know.

Meanwhile, plots and rumours circulate around Westeros as noble families, usurpers, and ambitious commoners alike all seek their moments of glory, while yearning for more substantial and lasting happiness. In a world where ambition is everything and reputation is sacrosanct, how far is anyone willing to go to realise their dreams or to protect their secrets?
