Whenever there is an Avatar, there is a Defender. There is a new one every cycle. She watches from the dark, to make sure nothing fatal happens to the Avatar. She is to never make contact with the Avatar unless it is absolutely needed.
But, what happens when she reveals herself to protect him. To take the shot. Would they save her and leave her in the nearest town or save their own hides? Or would the team fall in love with her? (Might be platonic idk yet) Might also be LGBTQ+
