Soulmates. 

The idea seems impossible to some - how could there be a person you're destined to be with? Two souls created at the same time, never to be parted. 

Not everyone has a soulmate, but those that do are created with a way to identify them. 

The most rare forms are telepathy - they can communicate through thoughts in their minds. Some communicate through skin. Others feel their soulmate's pain. 

More commonly given are rings. The ring expands with age and adjusts to fit any finger comfortably. It never falls off and can only be removed when the wearer is in a calm, level-headed mood. 

Clara Hughes was one of those born with a ring. Clara Hughes believed in soulmates. And every day, when she sifted through files on her computer at work, her mind drifted back to the one that was to complete her. Her goal was to find him.
