Her small circle of friends are into heavy metal and punk but her guilty pleasure is seeing the indie shoegaze frontman Jay Banning perform with his band, The Kumquats. One day Jay disappears without a trace and the band disbands. Not long after, Kat finds a translucent Jay wandering the halls of her school.

Anyway they pass by each other on their way to work, but hes too shy to say anything to her, he wonders if she even knows he exists. One night, he gets drunk and dies. He wakes up as a ghost and wonders where he is. He soon realizes he's dead and a ghost. So he walks the world as a ghost, later, he realizes he has a little power to make electrical fuses happen and stuff like that. Nothing major, just like cause green lights to turn red all of a sudden, stuff like that. He feels sad that he can't tell the girl he likes that he likes her, so he thinks if he can cause her to die 'accidentally', then she'll turn into a ghost and be with him.
