In the canon story, Steven was forced to deal with the consequences of his mother's actions, effectively making his young life miserable. He was robbed of the best years of his life, having to deal with every mistake Pink Diamond made.

It was horrible...

So, what if, in another timeline, she wasn't immature and did things without thinking about them fully? Where she took in consideration of other people's feelings? Where she makes life for all her friends, especially her son.

This idea is credited to @KingMythLord's story His Mother's Son where the epilogue is what inspired this story.
