Y/n just moved to Chicago, Illinois with her family. Since her days in middle school, she's always been an alternative girl. Starting out as emo, and graduating to a mix of punk and goth in grade eight, she's always been alone. Music has kept her together through the years, no matter what hardships she's been faced with. Parts of those two stories do intervene and they share the same timeline. I suggest you read them both, but again it's not crucial for understanding each one of them.
