~Summary~
Yami was tired of of being treated like he was a delicate gem in his kingdom. You see, he was the second child of King Sugoroku, meaning his older twin brother by a couple minutes, Yugi, was the heir of the throne. Therefore, he was treated like a jewel, made sure to be guarded at all times, and he hated that. All he wanted was to be treated like everyone else, not some fragile thing that needed to be protected at all times. One day, Yami snaps and runs away after an argument with his father. After an injury leaves him exposed in the dead of the night, a boy from a rivaling kingdom finds him and does the most unexpected thing.

He helps him.

-Monarchshipping (Male x Male)
-(Updated) Rated Explicit for few mentions of violence and blood. I'll put a warning in beginning of chapter if easily triggered.
-Yami x OC in beginning, although it's unrequited, and it doesn't really matter because it only lasts threeish chapters.
-I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh! Everything I use of their animation (i.e characters, places, references, etc.) belongs to its rightful owner. Nor do I own the cover picture. I just own this story's plot.
-This story's plot 100% belongs to me, please don't copy or take this, without my permission of course.

Yami Atem, a once cruel and heartless king, was obsessed with power and therefore, only cared for himself. However, because of his cold heart and selfish ways, he paid the ultimate price: Becoming a hideous dragon beast. Now Yami has one year to make things right by falling in love with another, who will return those same affections, otherwise he will remain with the doomed fate of staying a dragon beast forever. However, due to his ghastly form, he has locked himself away in his castle, abandoning the idea that he could break this curse, for who could ever love a beast such as he? Yugi Motou is a young man who only wishes for someone to understand what it's like to be an outcast, to be misunderstood by the world all because you're different in some way. It may seem like a petty thing I ask for, but to Yugi, it would mean the world to have someone who knows just what it's like to feel unwanted all because you're different. However, while going to run an errand for his grandfather, Yugi accidently stumbles upon a castle with a shining blue rose to light his path, meeting the infamous Yami Atem. So then, what will come when these two meet, and can Yugi break through Yami's thick walls to restore what he has lost or will it be too late to warm his frozen heart? Disclaimer: I do no own Yu-Gi-Oh! or its characters, only the story. Parody of "Beauty and the Beast" with my own dark twist on it, and not everything will be accurate. Yami/Yugi pairing. Also, sexual themes and strong language will be present, so to young viewers, viewer discretion is advised, read at own risk

Yūma has always shared a deep bond with his twin brother, Sakura Haruka, who represents the light and hope in his life. Despite being twins, Yūma and Haruka are opposites in many ways, especially in terms of personality. Haruka is determined but hides his vulnerability behind an aggressive and detached attitude. Despite his combative nature and brusque demeanor, he is guided by strong moral principles and feels uncomfortable when faced with kindness, fearing emotional bonds. Yūma, unlike his brother, is cold and calculating, always maintaining an impassive and distant facade. While Haruka reacts with aggression, Yūma prefers to manipulate situations, concealing his emotions behind an impenetrable wall. His coldness is a consequence of traumatic experiences that have led him to trust no one, making him extremely cautious in his interactions with others. However, beneath this icy exterior, Yūma battles an internal conflict between the desire to protect those he loves and the fear of being hurt again. The two are practically identical, except for the inverted colors of their eyes and hair, with Yūma also having a mole under his right eye, a small detail that distinguishes him from Haruka. Will Yūma be able to break free from his cold armor and the chains of his past, or will he let them consume him? The story takes place after the fight against the Keels, and the timeline will likely span a longer period to focus on the development of my characters. I would like to clarify that this is my first time writing stories, so if I happen to make any mistakes in the main storyline, I apologize in advance. I'll also probably change the original story a bit. The characters other than Sakura Yūma belong to Satoru Nii, so all rights are reserved to him. The images in the story do not belong to me; all rights to all of them go to the artists who created them.

Yugi, a young boy who was a servant for the royal family in Egypt, had stumbled upon the young prince with one of his teachers in the garden. Yugi was not allowed to befriend or speak with Atem unless asked or forced to. One day, Yugi was playing with some of the other servant kids until the young prince and his friend Mana were out in the field kicking some rocks. The young servant had not realized on how much he and the prince looked alike, the only 2 differences were that Yugi was way more paler and was not royal. Yugi had somehow gotten hurt, and this is where the relationship began. As his "friends" left him because they could not handle the crying, the caring prince and his friend rushed over to his aid. The servant just thought they'd help so none of their 'slaves' would be harmed and could continue working but that's not how Atem saw it. Later on things had happened to where the prince had ordered his father to keep Yugi in the palace, so the two grew up together until war began. For 3 years Atem had left.. Yugi hopes to see him soon someday.
