Owen is shocked to learn that Claire had a daughter amidst all the world-changing events, and he didn't even know of her. Plus, she had Sydney with someone else, showing that maybe she loved someone more than Owen. However, nothing stops Owen from bonding with Claire's daughter, Sydney, who is 4 years old.
And as they bond, Claire and Owen just show proof, if proof were needed, that they were meant to be together for something more than survival. Because they had already fallen in love with each other.
