When Mumbo finds himself trapped inside a universe very different from his own, he must team up with a group of known criminals to find his way back. However, the only way to return to Hermitcraft is with a dangerous object that destroys the mind of whoever comes in contact with it. Will he get back without corrupting himself beyond repair?
Yes this is the fanfic au I mentioned on tumblr. Yes it's hermitcraft. Yes I know that certain details won't exactly line up with cannon. I did a lot of research to make this so don't come at me because Grian is younger than Mumbo in this AU, or some odd detail like that.

"grian! that's grian!" the hermits who fled to find their youngest soon faced a replica of the shopping district. it was clearly deserted, yet somehow full of life. the missing hermit who they saw on a random window sill lay his head on a table, in each seat was an armour stand with different positions and different heads. this was his life for over 3 years. Sam was gone, for good, Mumbo had killed him and he hadn't respawned. He was dead. Grian trusted in the kindness of the world and he opened up, but that was his biggest mistake. Because what if Sam wasn't dead? What if they had been tricked by a simple hack? What if Scar and Mumbo went missing? What if they were taken? Grian would have to find out the consequences of those 'what if's the hard way. A sequel to "Sam's Back", I suggest reading that first if you haven't already since otherwise this won't make sense. A YHS/Hermitcraft fanfic. Angsty. There's some mild Grumbo shipping but it could just be seen as platonic. Also Scar/Cub shipping, but only really at the very end and you can ignore it if you want.
