On the anniversary of his girlfriend's sudden death, a grief-stricken police officer is presented with a strenuous case: the disappearance of a five-year-old child. The citizens of Westwood, Minnesota were astounded by the news that, after only 48 hours, the remains of the child, Hope Wilder, were found, along with Officer Thomas Baker, who had never failed a case presented throughout his career.
