I wrote this science fiction story at Clarion West, a workshop for science fiction and fantasy authors. Ellen Datlow was our instructor that week and it was the first time I managed to write a real short story, not a novel fragment. It took me years to do it again after that!

Since then, this story has been published professionally and translated into German and Spanish.
