[ Read Author's Foreword before reading anything else. Also, trigger warnings: addiction, self-harm, suicide, parasuicidal behavior, death, violence, rape, mental disorders - and those are just a few I can think of. Please, be careful while reading. ]
"As you tiptoe on the cliff of life, balancing on the borders between existence and non-existence, you are one with the universe. And the worst part is... You never want it to stop. That is it... That is the feeling you have been yearning for, ever since you can remember. You crave it. You need it. Maybe almost as much as you crave... Her. But you can't have her. Not anymore. You've missed your shot."
Amelia, an orphan circus artist who struggles with addiction, decides to go back to studying after a two-year break, during which she "ran off with the circus", as people like to put it.
Back at the University, she falls into her old patterns as she reencounters her dear old friends. Every night parties, getting high in between grad classes, that is what Amelia seeks in order to avoid dealing with feelings she was not yet ready to face. That is until she loses her best friend to an overdose, and in a completely unrelated note, makes a frenemy.
Is Amelia going to be able to forget and forgive the demons of her past and be ready to accept love and help, or is she going to settle down for what appears to be common sense about drug addicts - that they only recover when they hit rock bottom or that they are hopeless and die? Will she become statistics or open her heart and mind to explore other possibilities?
