Family? Love? Their meaning is long lost to fifteen year old Allen Mendez. For as long as he can remember he has known either of those. The family he had-his drunken father and half-mad brother-couldn't even be called one anymore. His mother understood that, she had run away from them.But he quickly grew numb to it all-the beating, scolding- the world around him blurring little by little. But Allen could take it, he had Evan. He was perhaps the only friend he'd ever have. When a strange woman appears bringing to light the possibility of a safer future, Allen must decide whether he can trust her, whether the sacrifices he must make for it are worthwhile, but most of all if he's ready to lose Evan for the sake of a better tomorrow.
