Anne Hopwood has the life any British girl would want, but she doesn't see herself so lucky. Though Peter Crawford is rich, handsome and, above all, her best friend, they both agree that the imminent arranged marriage will be a huge disaster. Her life changes with the arrival of Jack Carter, a mysterious man of subversive ideas that saved Peter's life at war and is now the new resident of the manor. Anne finds herself torn between wanting what's wrong and conforming with what's right. Warning: Rated M for sexual content, violence and substance abuse. Some future chapters may include triggering topics, such as sexual abuse. If you are sensible to any of these topics, proceed with caution. Reminder: This story is just a reproduction of things that happened in the beginning of the 20th century. I do not condone with violence or discrimination of any sort.
