This book is the story of thirteen year old Jade with NLD. NLD is short for neurological learning disorder. She was diagnosed in fourth grade, less than a month after one of her best friends, Midori, moves to Japan. Two days after she finds out her that remaining good friend has been awarded a diversity scholarship to a private school, she finds nine papers written by the school phycologist, that list her IQ, and her diagnosis.
Now thirteen, this girl struggles in school, she enters 8th grade, and she somehow makes people notice her.
An art teacher from a highly regarded private high-school is one of the many people to notice Jade. He admires her zany style, her attitude, her ambition...
Now Jade struggles to impress this teacher, for she soon finds out he's watching her. But just as she is on the edge of receiving an art scholarship to School, another tragedy forests her to pause, and remember her fourth grade, Kathleen and Midori, all the memory's she's tried to box up.
