It was in the 17th century that rifle scope was invented and it was invented so as to enhance the aiming ability of shooters. After that, people experimented with various kinds of optics so as to enhance their shooting abilities and also reduce their miss when hunting. However, it was in 1835 and 1840 that the documentation of the first rifle scope took place. This scope was made by Morgan James out of Utica, New York. An engineer bearing the name John R, Chapman wrote a book about Morgan James producing and experimenting with the rifle scope. The two of them worked together to produce the "Chapman-James Sight".
