Emmet and Clay did not meet on the best of terms, but that doesn't stop them from becoming fast friends. As their bond grows stronger, they will do whatever it takes to maintain this new friendship. Even though that may not be all that either of them wants. After years of living in a conservative southern town, Emmett has developed a hard shell that is not easily pierced. It's gotten even more difficult since breaking up with his first serious boyfriend left him feeling devastated and betrayed. Then a new friend comes along to peel back all the layers of protection, making Emmett feel happy again, and perhaps making him feel something more. The loss of his father at a young age left Clay with severe anxiety. His girlfriend says he's emotionally distant - because he is. Clay never gave much thought to his sexuality. He started dating because all his friends were, and although his relationships never seem to work out, he continues to try, because that's what's expected. The steady track he's been traveling is suddenly upended when he becomes enamored with a boy he just met. Now Clay has to figure out what he wants and how far he's willing to go to get it.

In the day-to-day trenches of high school, it is almost the default-setting to believe we are the main character of our own coming-of-age story. This is not wrong. It's just ours isn't the only story there is. The jocks, the nerds, the cheerleaders, the losers, the stoners, the fangirls, the skaters. Everyone's the realest most important person in existence, all of them, at the same time, first-person narrators to their own stories, stumbling into each other's plot lines, defying the status-quo, catalysts to ups and downs. A deconstruction of all the high school tropes and cliches written over the years, a deep-dive into the psyche of students trying to finish high school while going through irrevocable self-discovery, the most improbable of connections, and the insufferable pains of growing up.

Coles parents divorced and he had to move with his mom. Cole has always been closed off from the world. He's never had real friends or anyone for that matter. But as soon as he gets to his new school his life changes, and he starts to question himself from everything he's learned about being a loner. ~ Andi is a kind, helpful, forgiving person. Two Best friends in the school face a lot of hardships and obstacles due to rote learning. They prove that no matter what life throws at you, one can definitely move forward and taste success. The path, which their ship took was definitely not a peaceful route but quite an enjoyable one.
