"As far as I knew, my mother was the last woman alive on Earth the day her heart stopped beating in the produce section and she plunged face-first into the romaine." And so it begins... Life on Other Moons (the author's creative writing MFA thesis project) is a strange collection of short stories about people who just want to find happiness in the complicated, often harsh environments they call home. The stories touch on coming-of-age and parent-child relationships, as well as masculinity, femininity, and love in all its forms. They take place in different time periods and even realities, but careful readers will find links and even shared characters between them. IMPORTANT NOTE: One story ("Looking") may be triggering for people who are sensitive to or have experienced sexual assault. It's intended to be social commentary and isn't explicit, but the author would like you to be warned ahead of time. There's also a warning at the top of the story. This collection is being released on Wattpad for the first time to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its original limited-run print publication. It's now widely available in paperback form through Amazon. Feedback, insights, and other comments are welcome and encouraged! Izuku We had our entire life planned. We were going to continue to climb the ladder, get married, and have a family. But the longer we were together, the more followers we had, it all started to fade in the background. It was photoshoots, restaurant openings, trend after trend, and eventually, I had less time to see my family, less time for the things I had wanted to do. When I got a strange DM from a guy, warning me about the man I sleep beside every night, I ignored it and trusted him. But when I got ahold of his phone for the first time in years, it was hard to ignore what I already knew. Katsuki I love my life. I have great friends, a good family, a job that even on the bad days, I still look forward to. The run-down one bedroom house that three of us share isn't exactly my favorite thing, but it's home and sharing it with Denki and Eijiro makes it feel more live able than it really is. Money's tight and we don't have a lot, but we have love, loyalty, and friendship-something that's increasingly harder to come by in LA. The DM I got from an apparent rising influencer is proof of that. On top of the various platforms he uses, his entire Instagram page is dedicated to him and his boyfriend. Izuku My mom has never thought much with her brain and always lets her heart guide her way. It's why she's always with dumb guys and getting her heart shattered. Two boyfriends ago, it was a serial cheater. The last boyfriend had a gambling addiction and drained every account she had, including my college fund that both she and I had built. It wasn't just her money he stole. It was my money too, and now, I'm the one stuck paying the price for it. The last thing I want is to pull out loans I'll never be able to repay. Two and a half jobs barely cut it, and I'm drowning. When my roommate (and best friend) sees me struggling to keep up with it all and get some sleep, he suggests I look into a sugar daddy. He has one and swears it's the best decision ever. The sugar world is overwhelming at first glance, and thankfully, my best friend and his sugar daddy have my back and set me up with the best possible match.
