THE CLOUD
SYNOPSIS
Two teenagers
Two angels
Two worlds
One choice
Barth Howe (15) and Marta Papin (16) don't have much in common-except they're not happy with their lives. Barth's parents are using up their life savings to send him to an elite school in the city, which they see as his first step in becoming a financial success. Marta attends the same school, is often alone in her family's big house, and doesn't like the person she's become. Barth dreams of staying on his family's farm. Marta dreams of having a family.
Both dreams become impossible when Marta gets embarrassed in front of her friends and runs away up Mount Pinnacle. Barth is sent to find her and bring her back safely.
But they don't come back. Not for years.
While on the mountain, Barth and Marta pass over to Path, a land full of natural beauty, mystery, and history spanning millennia and myth. But an evil has taken hold since Selika, the beloved Queen, was overthrown by Jovian, The Tyrant and... her husband.
Marta and Barth are given a choice: stay and fight to save Path or return to Earth. If Barth and Marta return, then Path will succumb to an evil that will firmly take hold and spread to other worlds. If they choose to stay, then Jovian and Selika will pass to Earth where they will continue their conflict.
Two must go, so two can stay.
Barth and Marta decide to stay.
Thankfully they will find many allies on Path, just as Selika will on Earth, to fight evil-on both worlds. Two worlds that are separate, but as our heroes and their families will learn, have been linked since the dawn of humankind, when the battle of good versus evil began.
A battle everyone hopes will one day end... and it can.
Path (manuscript complete) is the first book in a series of 9 novels titled The Cloud.
Book II, titled Once is in final revisions and proofing, and a first draft of book III, Truth, is almost complete. Books IV to IX are at various stages of writing and outlining.
In a world where dragons rule the sky and ogres walk the earth, a young woman leads a rebellion against the corrupt king in pursuit of answers and revenge.
Eighteen-year-old Thea Wyvern has hated King Favian Lance of Creasan her entire life. It isn't a hard emotion to have when she has grown up witnessing murder in the streets and starvation in her family and friends. Raised in the rebellion known as The Source, Thea has been trained and conditioned to handle herself in battles of both violence and intellect. After the king executed someone very close to her, Thea has been working towards the king's demise as The Source's new leader. When an assassination attempt goes horribly wrong, Thea becomes the king's prisoner and is given a firsthand look at the people she has loathed her entire life. She takes note of the king's insecurity, the handsome Prince Fendrel Lance's carefully restrained demeanor, the abused look of Queen Ana, and the delicate balance of court life. Armed with this knowledge, she manages to escape the palace with a new plan to help her fellow citizens.
If she can find Aestus, the dragon responsible for the founding of the kingdom, she might finally be able to overthrow the horrible king. It is a perilous and risky mission, but her fellow rebels agree to the plan. Joined by the prince whose motivations may only appear to be genuine, they head for The Forbidden Mountain, where Aestus is said to live. The rebels will have to fight against the mythical creatures of the forest, the weather, and their own prejudices. Meanwhile, the king and queen are caught in their own web of danger as Ana seeks safety away from her husband and the Lance family curse sends Favian spiraling into madness. The fate of the royal family, the people of Creasan, and The Source all rest on Thea's last-ditch plan, but her own trauma might very well be the largest threat to the mission.
