Dr. Shayna Wells is a tenured professor of anthropology, specializing in American lore and legend, who regularly consults with FBI Agent Sean Bryce on the odd case-load he handles. A current case involves a serial killer profiled as a "beast", one who inflicts grisly trauma on their victims; teeth marks, flesh and limbs torn apart, and worst of all, cannibalism.

This brings her back around to a formative life-altering traumatic event. She believes the same killer who murdered her boyfriend, when she was a teen is currently on a killing spree, in and around her hometown.

Can she navigate the memories she left behind in her old hometown? ...A town full of magical secrets, agendas, desires, and complications? Can she and Special Agent Bryce solve this case before this monster finishes what they started?
