When they met in high school, they were best friends but the timing for something more was never right. Lucas had found himself trapped in the friendzone while Sydney found herself stuck in a toxic relationship that later left her broken.

Fueled by a series of events and a roller-coaster of emotions, their friendship ultimately falls through as they drift apart and embark on their own journies.

Eight years later and going through the motions of her present-day life, Sydney finds herself packing light and working as a travel nurse where she bounces from state to state. The only thing that can bring her back to the small West Virginia town she left behind is the news of her mother's worsening health. But when she comes back, she isn't prepared for the familiar faces that greet her. As their hope for a liver transplant dwindles, the last the thing on her mind is love.
