There must have been a mistake. Surely, Tony told himself, an honest mistake that, once he could reach Thor, would be gone - like it never happened.

Because Loki shouldn't be here, kneeling at his front door, in chain and with a collar around his throat. And Loki wouldn't talk. This must be a mistake.

An alternative ending for Avengers: Endgame where Tony and Steve both retired after the final battle - Steve stayed in the current timeline. Tony survived but was never together with Pepper - They shared a simple live at Tony's lakeside cabin and intended to continue doing just that. Until things took a drastic turn one day when Loki magically reappeared in their lives, right at their front door, bound and mute and apparently very traumatized.

Steve and Tony feared their retired lives would no longer be so simple after this, they were right.
