Sandy Burks is a doll. A living, speaking doll. She lives with her parents and her younger brother Troy in her small white, dollhouse in the playroom of a human girl. Every day they pretend to be made of plastic, to be lifeless, empty and hollow. One day though a stranger called Gregor enters Sandy's room through the window. Sandy finds out that all dolls are in danger of being burned - because of the growing popularity of video games. Sandy sets off with Gregor to save them all - and perhaps she learns why playtoys are important for children.

Powder can't remember her real name or who she was before she came to the Dollhouse. She doesn't even remember how she got there. In a seemingly-endless mansion of opulence and creatures lurking in shadows, Powder comes under the influence of the Monstress - a beautiful and eccentric woman who has created humanlike dolls to do her bidding and play out her dark fantasies. When Powder realizes her human body cannot withstand the supernatural forces of the Dollhouse, her only hope for escape is to build trust with both the dolls as well as the volatile Monstress herself. But one of the dolls develops feelings for Powder, and the jealous Monstress' cruelty knows no limits.
