Gracie is a fifteen year old amnesiac in the Burwood foster care system. That wasn't always the case-something happened to her, something bad, and she has no memory of who she is or who her family  was (if she had one) before she ended up in that hospital bed at Burwood Memorial.

At the Wallaces' foster home, she meets Jona, who has been in the foster care system almost as long as he can remember. Everything changes for both of them when they meet. Things begin to happen around them-things they don't understand-and they realize the world they live in hides another world: a world of magic and myth. Together, they must solve the mystery of Gracie's past-a past that is filled with the fey and fear and fire of this other world-before it catches up with them. Because she's not who she thinks she is-or even *what* she thinks she is. And *what* she is could be the death of her.
