Thirty days earlier, a forest fire had broken out near the state capital, and a family of four had been murdered.
Walter Peterson was arrested for the murders and sentenced to consecutive life sentences in the state Pen. He wasn't expected to survive even a week as there was already a price on his head, and one of the guards; Hudgkin, expected to collect it.
Walt killed a man even as they were both being delivered to the jail, but he'd made it look like an accident. A week later, he killed again, in the showers. Foul play, but with a hundred suspects, none of whom would say anything. The odds changed, and Hudgkin was running out of time. He would have to kill him himself on a fire detail.
Two dead men later, bringing the dead count to eight, Walt was free and on his way to Lookout point where he encounters two more men who deserved to die.
He now has other problems. He'd saved a beautiful young woman from being raped and murdered; he was on the run, with too many bodies behind him; they were both in the path of a forest the fire; and he'd fallen in love with her!
