Ollie is a quiet, smart boy in Ponyboy's class. Pony and Ollie happen to be best friends. Pony has mentioned that he has a group of friends that are so-called 'greasers'. Ollie wasn't known as a soc or a greaser. Sort of in the middle. Ponyboy takes Ollie one day to study at his house after school. Turns out the gang is there and takes a liking to the soft boy.
