When Magic Was Discovered by Ragnosk

The world fell to its knees when magic was discovered. The strange source of energy attached itself to a fraction of the worlds population, who named themselves Spellbinders. Even though the power was a marvel and inspiring to see fiction come to life, many Spellbinders used their powers to cause chaos and destruction. It wasn't long before they were able to topple governments and turn the world into a wasteland. What was left of the old world's military and those who hated magic, banded together to form the Dispersion to fight back. After decades of wars, the world came to a time period called The Settling. Spellbinders were hidden among the everyday people and the Dispersion enforced the laws of what towns remained. Graham Moon was a son of a retired Dispersion soldier and now farmer. Damian, an average middle grader, discovers his elvish heritage when he meets Lady Rachel, his aunt, who happens to turn his bike into a stallion to summon him to her castle. At Lady Rachel's palace Midwood, Damian discovers a world of magic, from the wood's heart to the fay tree. He stumbles across marvellous things he never thought he would. But, everything is not as it should be. While Damian is on his way home, he notices that the wood is on fire, and Lady Rachel comes and puts it out with the dryads' help. While back at home, Damian's neighbour is holding a mermaid prisoner in his pond. Damian plans on helping the mermaid escape. But he has no idea how to do it. His grandmother, who happens to be an enchantress herself, comes visiting from whom Damian begins to learn simple magic tricks. Meanwhile, Damian rescues the mermaid with the help of Lady Rachel and his grandmother.

Before the air-conditionless torture begins, the two discover a trunk of old papers high up in a deserted treehouse, and when they begin reading, they find that the stories are written about them. Because of the strange tales, Cole begins to believe he has powers that were transferred to him from a lightning bolt that struck him years ago. Adam, however, doesn't really pay attention to Cole--he has other things to worry about, like figuring out what happened to his dad and trying to stop some stranger from dating his mom. The summer's a weird one, and as Cole starts to befriend an old enemy, things turn sour. When a tornado hits town at the end of the summer and Adam disappears, Cole is no longer sure he knows his friend well enough to find him.
