Seryllx has spent his entire life running from his tragic past. He learned to live on the streets, an assassin and thief for hire. The only person who's been by his side is Girin, a woman who saved him and taught him how to fight. Everyone else has left him, and now he's just made the biggest mistake of his life. Instead of saving the mages he broke the law to free, he ended up killing them. Now he's facing death without having accomplished his goal.
Leriathis is the second prince of Sekanseht, and he's spent his entire life passive-aggressively rebelling against his father, The Emporer. The Emperor is a tyrant who hunts down powerful mages for their magic to fuel his quest for world domination. Leriathis has already lost one love because of his father, and so when he's forced to choose a royal consort, he isn't going to risk falling in love again.
That's why these two are perfect for each other. Seryllx has a chance at life, and accomplishing his goal. Leriathis gets to stick it to his father by choosing a murderer as his consort.
