17-year-old Cayden Matthews has had a rough couple of years. Ever since she attempted suicide, she hasn't been the same. Once an aspiring writer, now she can no longer talk to her mom, sister, or best friend about how she truly feels.  

So her mom forces her into a support group at the nearby hospital, where she meets Everett Walker, a charming cancer patient with an unbelievable sense of humor. She falls for him fast, but he has his own inner demons he's hiding from her as well.  

Ultimately, Cayden has to overcome her depression on her own and choose life. She battles perfectionism, body dissatisfaction, an absentee father, a mother who it feels like will never trust her again, a sexual assault experienced by someone close to her, and suicidal thoughts. If and when Everett isn't in her life anymore, she has to become her own reason to stay.
