"Really? Did I? Or did you yourself?" He smirked at me. I expected the smirk to be a toxic expression, an expression dripping venom, but his smirk was somewhat....

Sympathetic? Like he's been there before. 

"I-" Before I could finish, he saluted me casually and disappeared through the velvet curtains that held me captive.
