Kitt is a young master-blacksmith from Isenkliff in the grey northern sea, where his father taught him the craft, and the warriors who came for the famous Aurora steel taught him to fight. His mother taught Kitt to heal wounds.
After fleeing the Tolosan Troubles, Kitt sails on the Orokun, a four-master pirate ship with purple sails, and acquires a reputation as a pirate. In the port of Khattom, a stranger drugs Kitt to steal his sword, thereby leading him to Yoamihassidasse, a lost city in the thrall of a cosmic predator that catches humans in a net of stellar music. Falling to the lure of the Star Song himself, Kitt can only survive by destroying the demon. An army of a hundred bounty hunters has followed him, stealing the riches and slaughtering the defenceless people. Kitt must save the city again.
