Long ago, in the shadow of Spanish conquest, werepanthers were born in Borikén-the land now known as Puerto Rico. Created through sacred rites by the island's oppressed, the enslaved Africans and the indigenous Taíno, they were guardians of balance and warriors of resistance. In the present day, Kara White's world is upended by the sudden death of her mother. A cryptic letter, a journal full of secrets, and one urgent message-drive north and don't look back-send her deep into the shadowed forests of Moore Town, Vermont.

There she finds something ancient and ruthlesss stalks the town. Teenagers are vanishing, only to be found days later mutilated and marked with unexplainable symbols. Fear grips the town. Tensions simmer between shifters and humans. And Kara suspects that whatever's hunting the town... is also hunting her.
