A pyromancer visits a village where strange creatures from an ancient swamp are kept as companions.

This story incorporates real animals from the Carboniferous and Permian periods. For the most part, I have attempted to portray them in a way that is accurate to my (amatuer) understanding of the real organisms, but ultimately this is a fantasy story. They possess many traits that are idealistically speculative at best, their relationships with each other are almost always anachronistic, and some of them have traits that are outright magical. Much like when animals that live today are included in fantasy stories, they are not quite the same as the real thing! Please keep that in mind when reading.
