Astra McCrae is starting her senior year of high school. Unlike most 18-year-old girls, she is not excited. After her junior year consisting of difficult classes, a family illness, and two breakups, Astra just wants to be done with Brookwood, Maine. She only wants to graduate and move out of her small town, taking her friends and her boyfriend with her, to somewhere much bigger.
But life often does not happen the way that we plan it. As much as we want our lives to be perfect, they aren't. When Astra spots her ex-boyfriend in a diner on her birthday, her life starts to become full of surprises once more. What happens to her when this small encounter turns into a dangerous situation?
