Rusty's just a 12-year-old girl, but she's not normal. Apart from the fact that she can barely struggle on her own, she has Dyslexia and she's deaf. Its a universe of the same old things that just tear her apart inside to out.
So when her mum announces that they are moving, Rusty's overcome. She has no friends to turn to and her family just can't understand. She takes refuge in her havens which she finds throughout to town. But then something happens that Rusty cant change and she has no idea how to deal with it.
