Almost everyone has seen a mirror, and almost everyone has a soulmate. If you look into a mirror, you can occasionally see your soulmate, like a window into their life, so long as they are also looking into a mirror. You can communicate, but most choose to passively watch. In the case of Lance McClain, he chooses to ignore his soulmate. He tells his friends he was born without one, and everyone believes him. Why does he do this? His soulmate is his best friend, Keith Kogane. He's only seen him in a mirror once, and has avoided mirrors since. But that can all change.
