Aislinn has lived a peaceful, quiet life with her loving family all her life, and that's all she wants to keep doing. But like all the other thirteen-year-old girls in her country, she stands a good chance of being drafted for the nation's messenger service--the Runners.
Mysterious and often feared for the news they bring, when Aislinn is drafted her whole world is shattered. Pulled from her family--possibly forever--she is taken to a training camp where she slowly begins to pick up the skills she'll need to survive this brutal and sometimes deadly career. And as she does, she rises above her peers to become the fastest in her graduating class of Runners, and eventually, the fastest of all time. But it's not enough. Aislinn, from simple beginnings, longs for the simplicity and love her old life had afforded her, instead of the cold cruelty of the Running system. And on a Run to Thalassa, the ocean province, she may discover more than ever she bargained for.

What's even more terrifying is that he might be, too. She isn't ready for love. Not yet.
