Bria feels like an outcast. Shy and hard of hearing, she struggles to make friends and connect with others. At the age of 21, she leaves to travel around the world, hoping to find a place where she belongs. She travels to the West African country of Gamanya where she meets Jenica, an 18-year-old Deaf girl who dreams of becoming a doctor but has been prevented from studying science due to the superstitious and discriminatory beliefs of her teachers. They become friends, learning about each other's cultures, and growing together through their shared experiences. Together they travel from Jenica's small village to the Capital where there is a Deaf school that will allow Jenica to pursue her dreams. Over the course of the journey, they both learn the meaning of pursuing their dreams and the sacrifices it will take to get there.
