Every day, lives are put at risk. Every day, people die. Is this the act of a higher being or power than humanity? As much as Mali would like to believe that, she can't. Why? Because as The Fate Chooser's apprentice, it is her decision of what to do with the prisoners that are put in King Herald's dungeon. And as much as she'd like to believe that all the people she has killed or sent to a work camp are evil, she knows there are always two sides to a story. And as she begins to fall in love with the worst of criminals, she begins to see that people aren't all good, or all bad. Everyone is a mixture of both.
